4th Annual Great Hudson Valley Pedal 08/12 thru 08/17
Great Hudson Valley Pedal is designed for fun and relaxation and to acquaint you with the richness of the Hudson Valley. You don't need to be an expert to participate in this tour but you and your bicycle should be in good physical condition. You'll cover 35-45 miles per day. Elevation changes are moderate. The route has been carefully selected for optimal bicycling but, especially as the tour approaches NYC, some busy roads are inevitable. A 200-mile fully supported recreational bicycle tour from Albany to New York City through the magnificent and historic Hudson Valley. Parks & Trails New York organizes this bicycle tour to promote the parks, trails, and historic sites of the Hudson Valley and economic development through bicycle and heritage tourism. Funds raised will help support Parks & Trails New York’s park and trail programs. The Great Hudson Valley Pedal will be six days spent with companion cyclists learning about the history of the Hudson Valley and enjoying its scenery. Riders will enjoy time cycling and touring with family members, renewing old friendships and making new friendships. As the Cold War Red Scare and the Hollywood Blacklist polarized our country, Hollywood's denizens responded to the political turmoil in powerful yet quite different ways. Explore two films that can be seen as examples of this with host Matthew Seig, director of Rivertown Films.
August 13: Gentlemen's Agreement. A magazine writer pretends to be Jewish for a series of articles and meets with prejudice in unexpected ways. This was Hollywood's first major attack on anti-Semitism. Actor John Garfield and director Elia Kazan were on the famous Blacklist. Best Picture Academy Award winner. 1947.
August 20: High Noon. This western has the town's marshal, Gary Cooper, facing four gunmen after the gutless town abandons him. Called an allegory for blacklisting, screenwriter Carl Foreman was a victim of the famous list. 1952.

Evening Lighthouse Lantern Tour 08/23
